The Mountaine Meadows Pottery Story: Chapter I

Mark and I fell in love with each other in 1968. We fell in love with our house in 1983. The story of our house, family, and pottery are all intertwined together. I will share that story here as time goes by. Although there is no happy ending yet….there is a lot of “happy”.

We often have rainbows over the house, we don't often catch them on film.

Our 1797 cape had no plumbing or electricity, and hadn’t been lived in since the great Vermont flood of 1927. The last renovations had been done in 1840 when the six stairs in the front hall were moved to become the attic stairs and nine “new” incredibly steep stairs were installed next to the five foot tall brick fireplace in the dining room.

My summer garden

With all the spring rain we’ve had, summer is starting out exceptionally green and lush. My garden is full and beautiful to look at from my window. Unfortunately, with all the wetness, comes an abundance of bugs.

I began making these stair tread rugs while working the booth at the Big E in 1995. I finished them last winter while recovering from hip surgery. There are 9 steps, each one is a different size. Each rug has a different flower in succession of bloom. Spring starts at the bottom. 15 years doesn’t seem like too long, does it?
