Knit Happens at Mountain Meadows Pottery

I don’t know how it happens. The holidays come and go and suddenly it is winter! The world is frozen solid and it is not too much fun to fight the elements out there in in the cold cruel world. So we “put our socks to the fire” and knit. We call it yoga for the hands.

I’ve been working on a sweater for my son for the last year. It seemed like every time I got enough made for him to try on, it was too small. So I would rip it out and start over.  This winter I AM GOING TO FINISH it! With my luck he will get a job someplace in the tropics and all my work will be obsolete!

But then what can you do  knit happens

Have any of you seen the blogs at www.knithappens.com?

They have some really FUN STUFF!  They also connect people to each other for Stitch and Bitch Clubs.  stitch and bitchThat is another favorite concept here at Mountain Meadows!

WINTER SOLSTICE

Today is the Winter Solstice. Here in Vermont the snow covers everything making the world a silent wonderland. As we await the arrival of the family and friends we are crossing our fingers for clear skies.

The end of 2008 is a time of reflection and looking to the future. We take some deep breaths, count our blessings, and get ready for another year!

Happy holidays to all. Talk to you in 2009.

The Holidays are almost here!

It seems impossible that Christmas is only a couple of weeks away. However, as I sit here with my cat Phoebe next to me, a heating pad on my sore back and the full moon lighting up the ice covered tree branches I realize that all the signs are clear. The days are short, the list of to do’s is long, and I am making beds, getting ready for the kids and family to come home.

It has been a stressful fall for everyone worrying about the future, studying the past and trying to make sense out of how we got into such an economic mess.

Not surprisingly, our most popular plaque has been “It Is What It Is”. But as we look at what sayings people are buying, we find that everyone still wants to smile together and share their love for each other. It is a delight to read the messages we pass along from father to daughter, cousin to cousin, and friend to friend.

We are offfering FREE UPS Ground shipping for a few more days to help get those last minute purchases on time. Please take advantage, and have a happy holiday, whichever one you celebrate!

THE HOLIDAY SPIRIT

The holidays are here. We have spent wonderful time with family on Thanksgiving. Our holiday was a milestone for our family, a wonderful young baby and what used to be the younger generation is now the eldest generation. But we are together and that is the watchword.

We have traveled to 4 states selling plaques, meeting people and trying out our new sayings. It was delightful to relish in the new energy inspired by the “Yes We Can” and “Rosa Parks” plaques.

But overall we found the same sincere folks looking for ways to say “I love you” to their families and friends in a frugal, american made, humorous personal way.

The “Buy 3, pick a 4th plaque, and get it FREE” deal is most appreciated this year. We are especially pleased to be able to offer “FREE SHIPPING” for orders of $40.00 or more. Please note the FREE SHIPPING is USPS standard so expect at least a week for delivery.

Enjoy our website and all the variety, and as always we LOVE your feedback!

Warm Wishes from Vermont.

Summer in Vermont!

School is out, the heat is on, and summer is really here in the Northeast Kingdom! Summer in Vermont is unlike summer anywhere else. The summer camps on lakes that have been empty and closed up for the long winter months are beginning to buzz with excitement. Check out our variety of vacation home and summer plaques. There is no question that it is a time of year meant for relaxing: reading books, recreation, and travel. The days are long, the mountains and fields are green and lush, windows are kept open, the breeze is fresh and smells of lilacs. It is finally summer in Vermont.

SPRING IS WELL UNDERWAY IN VERMONT

Memorial Day is coming up and the lilacs are about to bloom, the black flies are just coming out also, another Vermont tradition. Vermont is so beautiful this time of year. Sometimes I wish I was retired so I could really take advantage of this fabulous weather! Check out our retirement section by clicking here: retirement

AH YES WINTER

It is so wintery here! We are all hunkered down for the long haul. It is quiet though and the long nights are perfect for doing projects and thinking up sayings. Send us your ideas!

We celebrated the end of the year with the first ever Mountaine Meadows Olympic Stringing contest. Teams of three people faced off to see who could string the most plaques in the shortest amount of time. It was an exciting event with high energy music to spur on the teams, like the theme from Rocky and Stars and Stripes Forever. The trophy of a stuffed vampire toy left over from Halloween went to the Crazy Knotters, but everyone received a prize of a 10 minute neck massage, supplied in house on a very tight schedule.olympics

We have a new cutter for the plaques. It is sharp and crisp and making beautiful plaques. We are also working on replenishing our inventory after the Christmas season. But we have a good supply of everything so look at the NEW section and see the hottest newest sayings still warm from the kilns.

Spring in the mountains and meadows

Warm days and cold nights are making the maple sap run. Farmers are putting up their buckets and starting to make maple syrup. The birth of spring in the mountains of Vermont is kind of messy. Mud is everywhere trapping cars on the back roads and leaving a layer of dirt in our kitchens. It is a good time to remember that a little mess now and again is good for the soul. After all a little “clean” dirt never hurt anyone.

Winter is here. It is quiet, and the nights are long. We have tons of snow (we love snow in Vermont) finally. It is time to knit, read a book, cook a complicated meal, and spend time with the people you love. Soon enough spring will bring a million projects, for now it is time to enjoy the frozen simplicity of winter.

A chill is in the air

Shortened days signal the approach of the Christmas season. We have already been as far as Michigan and Washington DC to participate in craft fairs. Everywhere we met people who are enjoying a laugh, thinking about relationships, and looking for ways to encourage and support the people they love.

A recent divorce’ will receive a: Dance As If No One Were Watching plaque
A wonderful elderly man who bought a saying for his Cousin. He told me a rollicking story his about his youthful adventures with his cousin on the Erie Canal.

I met a woman whose daughter’s prize winning german shepherd had just given birth to 10 “mongrel” pups. The fun part was her Mom bought her a Put On Your Big Girl Panties And Get Over It plaque!
As the Christmas season progresses with its stresses and pressures let’s remember to laugh
