Thinking about the fall

Friday, September 18th, 2009

I am sitting by the fire knitting baby pumpkin hats (here is a link to the pattern I used) for a set of twins that were born just a few days ago. What cold be more appropriate for a fall evening? We have had weddings, births and sadly, a death here at Mountain Meadows. Our long time friend and carpenter David, passed away, suddenly, leaving us wondering how one person could have built so many useful things for us. Everywhere we look we see the products of his labors, tools, and ramps, shelving and displays, cherry cabinets, and pine doors.

Then, a few days ago we got word that a pair of little girl twins were finally born after a very long brave and thoughtful struggle by their parents.

Fall in Vermont is a very important time!  It is beautiful and magical as it transforms the landscape and our lives. We prepare for the quiet of winter, dreaming of the long nights by the warm fire with thoughts of new lives just arrived and lives passed on.

Gifts for loved ones, no matter who they are:

Enjoy your fall wherever you are,

OK SO SUMMER IS COMING TO AN END… SO WHAT?

Tuesday, August 25th, 2009

It’s true. The air is feeling clean and crisp, and the morning light is arriving as late as 5:30 am. Up here in northern Vermont we take these things seriously, and everyone is planning on going kayaking or biking after work.

The end of the summer brings on the show season too and we are extremely busy getting inventory prepared for all the retail shows we will be doing. Check out this link to see our show schedule.

We will have at least 24 new sayings to try out at the shows, many in the new brown standing style. That style has been a big hit this summer and it is especially exciting to design new sayings for guys and offices.

Our most popular one so far has been the Man Cave plaque.

But here is a new one we have been selling for the last few weeks and it ’s looking very exciting!

We’ll be having a lot of fun in the next few weeks meeting people on the road. Here’s to a long Indian summer!
Stay in Touch,

WEDDINGS

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

Ok , this seems to be the year for weddings. I am not sure exactly why, but I personally know eight couples who are getting married this year. One of them is my son Nathaniel and his finance’ Brittan!
What an exciting event! We are buying dresses, planting flowers, planning meals, choosing music, and sending invitations.

Suddenly all the sayings we have been creating for weddings seem a lot more relevant! I can’t wait to include Brittan in our family.

It feels like a new life is beginning for all of us!

Mark and I have been married for 35 years. These days more than ever the old adage  “in life the best thing to hold onto is each other” is especially true.

You can see all our sayings for shower and wedding gifts in the section called Wedding
Then indulge your imagination and check out the “Babies” section.

Summer AH-AH Summer

Thursday, June 25th, 2009

Now that summer is finally here, we Vermonters are already thinking about ow quickly it will pass. Gardens are looking fantastic, both vegetable and flower gardens are at their peak now.

But it’s also time to relax and enjoy. It’s time to make a few trips to the beach.

2129P.jpg If you are like me it sometimes feels like I should be doing something a little more productive than sitting on the beach. That’s Wrong! Celebrate summer with an acknowledgment that “Time spent at the beach is never wasted” with a Mountaine Meadows plaque.

Or perhaps it is time spent at the golf course!

At any rate, as we proceed through these tough economic times we need to take our fun where it finds us. Because as we all know, “It Is What It Is”. But, if that doesn’t make you feel better, why not “Wine a bit”?

Fathers Day

Friday, May 29th, 2009

Unlike Mothers Day, Fathers Day creeps up on us. There just isn’t as much hoopla about it. But Dads appreciate the attention just as much as Moms, maybe more.

The new rectangle plaques we are making here at Mountaine Meadows make perfect gifts for Dad. They stand on a desk or counter and they can also be hung on the wall.

If your Dad is the one who fixes everything he will definitely laugh at the “let me work on your problem” saying. Then again, he may be the type to hide in his “man cave” .
6358R.jpg  6150R.jpg

Then there is the gift for your son who is also a Father! We really have a great plaque saying for that one!

I suspect you will find loads of possibilities for your Dad. Take a peek at the Fathers Day section and have a good laugh on us!

Wine A Bit, You’ll Feel Better

Saturday, May 9th, 2009

I have noticed people buying groups of 8, and sometimes more, plaques with sayings about wine.

It got me thinking that there must be some “wine tasting friends” out there who are getting together on a regular basis. So I began to look further into how people are “expanding” their friendships by meeting with their friends to drink wine. Well, I have discovered there are plenty!

What a fabulous idea!

Even here at Mountaine Meadows, Sheila meets once a week with her 3 sisters and Mom to drink wine and visit.  There is a rumor that they are supposed to be doing rug hooking also, but that seems to be secondary to the wine drinking. She brings this plaque along to inspire the right mood, and I guess her Dad wanted it last week to give to a friend.

6730R.jpg

There are a few awesome sites for people who want to set up this kind of group. The one called Gottannins.com  was my favorite. It seems pretty simple: all you have to do is, 1. invite a few people over, 2. pick a wine producing region that you want to experiment with, tell everyone to bring a bottle of wine, 3. start tasting!

Here’s a blog about wine that looks extremely deep. It reviews an enormous variety of wines and has numerous links to other blogs and groups! It’s called The Blog Wine Cellar. It is certainly worth a visit.

But, back to the plaques…..

Mountain Meadows has both blue and brown plaques geared towards wine drinkers.

2730P.jpg2726B.jpg

If you belong to a group of wine drinkers, we may have the perfect gift for you to share with your wine drinking friends. And…. the “deal” we have is great for buying multiples as gifts, because if you choose 3 plaques, you can pick another one and get it FREE.

Happy sipping,

Deborah

Mothers Day

Thursday, May 7th, 2009

I love Mothers’ Day.  Of the 12 people who currently work at Mountaine Meadows, 9 are Mothers and 3 are grandmothers. That tells you a lot about our staff I guess. We have had 5 babies born in the last 3 years and have one due at the end of May!

That’s Alissa on the right, mixing clay, she is 6 months pregnant in this picture!

One of the things I love the best about Mothers’ Day though is providing people with sentimental gifts for their Moms, from the electricians who work on our kilns, to the little boys who appear at our door, from time to time, looking for clay to play with. they all respond well when I remind them of the approaching holiday.
In this spirit, we are offering a Mothers’  Day special of shipping for just $2.00. You can ship any amount of plaques via United States Postal Service priority shipping, even just one, to a single address and pay just $2.00. Check out our special Mothers’ Day category for ideas.

But here are 2 of my favorites, both for daughters!

2229B.jpg        2208B.jpg

If you are interested in finding out more about the history of Mothers’ Day you can check it out on Wikipedia. It’s nice to know that it wasn’t invented by Hallmark Cards after all, but was meant to be a day intended as a call to unite women against war when it was first celebrated in 1872.

Happy Mothers’ Day from all of us Mothers at Mountaine Meadows Pottery.
