Thinking about the fall

I am sitting by the fire knitting baby pumpkin hats (here is a link to the pattern I used) for a set of twins that were born just a few days ago. What cold be more appropriate for a fall evening? We have had weddings, births and sadly, a death here at Mountain Meadows. Our long time friend and carpenter David, passed away, suddenly, leaving us wondering how one person could have built so many useful things for us. Everywhere we look we see the products of his labors, tools, and ramps, shelving and displays, cherry cabinets, and pine doors.

Then, a few days ago we got word that a pair of little girl twins were finally born after a very long brave and thoughtful struggle by their parents.

Fall in Vermont is a very important time!  It is beautiful and magical as it transforms the landscape and our lives. We prepare for the quiet of winter, dreaming of the long nights by the warm fire with thoughts of new lives just arrived and lives passed on.

Gifts for loved ones, no matter who they are:

Humor and Love – Trump – Fear and Anxiety

Ah, now the big holidays are over and we are facing a New Year! It looks like it could be a challenging one.

Mountaine Meadows has many new and vintage sayings that speak words of encouragement to the people we love who need a boost. One of my favorites is one we call our “bounce” plaque.

There are others too. Franklin Roosevelt is being quoted a great deal lately, but many people think Eleanor was a powerful influence on the thoughts of the day. One of her most popular sayings was “A woman is like a teabag, you never know how strong she is until she is in hot water”.

Mountain Meadows has several other Eleanor Roosevelt sayings in our quotes category.
But let’s not forget the way we support each other with words of love.  We have a wonderful brand new saying about marriage. It is perfect for Valentines Day, which by the way, is just around the corner!

And…. always remember “In life the best thing to hold onto is each other”

IT IS WHAT IT IS

Ok here we are in the middle of an economic melt down, and low and behold the plaque that says IT IS WHAT IT IS has been getting so much attention that I am writing a second blog post about it. We have been selling it at retail shows and the stream of comments are usually fun and sometimes a window into a person’s life. Mostly we find people buying the saying for their bosses but increasingly it is for a family member who needs a little thoughtful sentiment.

My favorite story was a group of work friends who were shopping together. Their boss was away on vacation and they were cleaning his office for him while he was gone. They split the cost of the plaque and planned on hanging it up over his desk before he got back.

They got a lot of fun out of that $14.95 investment!

We have lots of sayings for encouragement and we are making more. Keep in touch and watch the New section!
 It’s All Good

IF HE BRINGS YOU TO IT HE’LL BRING YOU THROUGH IT

Is It All Good? or What It Is?

As we are traveling the country selling plaques at craft shows this fall we have discovered a little contest going on. It is a battle of attitude. Our new plaque sayings “It Is What It Is” and “It’s All Good” are having it out, and we are having a lot of fun watching the friendly back and forth. So many of our customers know someone who says “it is what it is” that it is a little mind boggling. Sometimes it is said in supportive way and other times it seems to be more of a hard lesson. The ones who say “It’s all good” are definitely putting a positive spin on the situation.

In this day and age both sayings suit the mood. Let us know what you think on the comment section of our contact page.

The battle continues.

January is diet month

I don’t know about anyone else but I am getting sick of the ads on TV for diets. I am aware that tons of strong and disciplined people go on diets in January. I respect them and on a certain level I envy them. But… I say:

Whenever I say the word diet I wash my mouth out with chocolate

if you can’t make me skinny make my friends fat.

I say inside me lives a thin person but I keep her sedated with chocolate
